I don’t know about you guys, but I hate working out. As a result, I am constantly trying to find ways to make it easier and more enjoyable. (Anything to trick ourselves into exercising, right??). Today, I’m sharing a few things that I did to organize my home workout gear & make things seem a little more doable.
We used to keep all of our weights in a basket, but it was kind of a mess. The smaller weights would get stuck under the heavier weights, and the basket felt dangerously close to breaking whenever I actually tried to lift it. When we moved to our new house, we decided to use the storage furniture from our old entryway as our media cabinet, and the drawer space under the television turned out to be a great little home gym organizer!
Problem solved!! I’m usually using the tv to do one of my workouts anyway, so this drawer was the perfect spot! I just put a towel on the bottom so that my weights wouldn’t scratch the drawer, and now everything is easy to reach & in one spot. No more tracking down our yoga mats from random closets, and no more digging through a basket full of weights to find what I need. (We use the other drawer to store pet supplies, and the tall cabinet houses all of our electronics & DVDs).
I also have one more little trick up my sleeve…
My hubby came up with the brilliant idea of sticking furniture sliders under my treadmill, so I can easily move it in front of the tv when I’m working out, then push it back into the corner & out of the way when I’m done. Now I can finally catch up on Grey’s Anatomy without feeling guilty! 🙂

Furniture sliders are such a great idea! I don’t work out at home anymore. I have go to the local family rec-center. While I work out the children are all in the pool swimming. When I am done I go relax in the hot tube.
Furniture sliders! Brilliant! How have I not thought of that in the last 10 years?? That would make it SO much easier to load and unload the treadmill on a regular basis. I am on my way to Target now! 🙂
I also had some problems with the weight organization and where to store all the fitness gear. Finally, we decided to make a part of the garage our new work out place and now everything is stored there. We made hangers on the wall for the weights and shelves for the yoga pad, the boxing gloves and sport bandages. It is way more organized and tidy this way. I suggest everyone who work out regularly to make such a place.
I second that! In fact I hate working out but I also don’t appreciate putting much weight :/
I think it is a brilliant idea for all those who work out halfheartedly. Television can be fun and interesting. I like the idea of using furniture slider: it’s an intelligent move 🙂
Wouldn’t the sliders hurt the wood floor? If there is any grit at all under the sliders the weight of the treadmill will scratch it up. Have you encountered this?
