Because I am the MOST indecisive woman in America, I have changed my mind about my master bedroom. I slept on it for a few days, just to make sure… so now I am sure that I am afraid of color. Thats it! I admit it. I can say it out loud. “I am afraid of color”. Or, it could be just that I am to forever stuck with a beige house. Either way, the blue was just beautiful but not for me. So… back to Home Depot I went on a search for a new color. (And to Target to take back the beautiful curtains).
So many colors to choose from, it was extremely difficult for me.
Here is the new color I chose (and the one that will hopefully stay on my bedroom walls for a while).
Mushroom by Martha Stewart
I also purchased some fabulous white sailcloth panels from Target. I was surprised at the great quality. They were $18.99 for 2 – 84″ Re style panels.
My main inspiration to choosing this color… Martha Stewarts kitchen. I CANT WAIT to go shopping for new vintage decor. I am excited to show you all when its finished.

Another great room with this color. LOVE this bathroom & the vintage feel.

I love my husband so much. He’s such a great sport. I was painting the trim when he walked in the bedroom (after a long day at work) and went strait to the closet to change into his paint clothes. Keep in mind, he helped me paint this room about a week ago! It took us around 4 hours to finish both times. I love you!
Please tell me Im not crazy for doing this. I just love vintage decor and when I was going through my mind about what I would decorate with when I had the blue, nothing came to me. I was in panic mode for 24 hours and finally decided it had to be changed. Im relieved and so happy with my decision. 🙂
Have you ever painted a room and totally hated it, then repainted it right away?

One more thing I think you and I have in common – the love for vintage decor! I have been falling for it more and more each year….
I just painted our entry with some green – I used two leftovers put together. The swatch I painted on the wall looked gorgeous…once I painted the whole entry it was hideous. My hubby, who normally could care less about what I paint, even mentioned how bad it looked. He was right – it was a total FAIL! So, I DO understand your panic. I will be going to the store and getting the right color this weekend and painting it soon. You will probably see a post on this fail soon….I bet it will be beautiful! Can’t wait!

Yes! I’ve repainted a room twice before moving in even! I’ve repainted a room 3 times, 3 colors in 8 years of living here. And you know what I painted it the last time? White. And I think I love it now. It’s just a weird room in terms of lighting and only white really worked.
By the way, I like your new color. It looks very calming with the white curtains – as a bedroom should be.
I have painted a room and hated it, but I waited almost 2 years before repainting it……….to a light turquoise.
YES i have painted a room and hated it immediately, but my husband isn’t as nice as yours 🙂 he will not with a capital N let me repaint it (because i’ll probably change my mind again) i realllly love the color you chose. so pretty! i’ll just live vicariously through you 😉 🙂 🙂
I really like that color!!
very pretty!! What color is your room now?
This made me laugh out loud. Not because you’re crazy, but because I’ve been there. About a year ago, my husband and I were trying to find curtains for our awkward living room window, and we bought 4 different sets before settling on the right one…
Some times you just have to see it up to know wether or not you like it.
Your room is going to look great!
I had to pick out all the colors for my new house before we moved in. Only one room is less than perfect. I have not repainted it yet, but I’m not thrilled.
I think it is great that you just re did it right away. I love your inspiration. I think you made the right choice.
You got to live with it. it is a nice color…. so is Martha Stewart’s MOURNING DOVE ! Love the sailcloth panels
Don’t worry!! My dad painted our bathroom for us while we were gone (with a color I picked) I came home and almost cried. It looked like a really bad tan in the bottle. We waited a few weeks trying to figure out how to not make my dad’s work wasted and finally just had to paint over it. I felt horrible but guess what – my dad thought we were insane for picking that color! That was a lesson learned. From now on, I will buy the little $5.00 paint jars with my color and paint part of the wall first before doing a whole room!!!
You are not crazy….I am afraid of color too….My house has very plain color walls. I just have a lot of fun colorful accent pieces. I can’t wait to see the finish bedroom.
In the same boat sorta, last year I painted the bathroom and according to my son it looks like a giant pumpkin. It has bothered me ever since but with the kitchen remodel and trying to do a bedroom remodel I have left it alone. Now I sit in there and just glare at the ugly walls I hate my bathroom lol
That is fun! I love painting and having different colors in my house 🙂
I’m glad im not the only one.:). There will be more rooms. A spring project coming up is my daughters room. With batten and board. Im excited about that.

LOL, I thought I was the most indecisive when it comes to home decor and paint! I am sure it will look lovely. God bless your husband! Mine has painted our bath once and I am ready to have him do it again.
I have to say I haven’t done this…not because I am more decisive than you (in fact, I am definitely indecisive!), but because as a military brat, we always lived in rentals – meaning, we were not ALLOWED to paint. Now, as an adult, I live in a home with all beige walls and I’m DYING to paint them. So, even though I haven’t painted and then repainted…I’m sure it’s in my future! LOL
A few years ago we painted our entire downstairs. The color I picked out for the front room looked great when I painted the samples on the walls, but I hated it after I finished the whole room. It glowed pink although the color was taupe. My fabulous husband painted it over again. I am still not sold on the color i painted our hall and stairwell. If it wasn’t so difficult to reach the really high spots, I would probably change it.
I love the color you picked. We have a blue in our bathroom that is a pretty bold color. I don’t love it, but I haven’t painted over it yet. I’m really afraid for when we do our kitchen this year–what goes on the walls? 🙂
You are definaltely not alone! When we painted my son’s nursery, it didn’t turn out like we wanted…but it had taken 4 coats of paint to get it to the bad shade of yellow I picked! My husband looked at me and said “this is awful…” I kept trying to tell myself it was OK…because he had just spent 2 days putting 4 coats of paint on. He said he would repaint it if I wanted him too, but we just left it and have looked at the BRIGHT yellow for 2 1/2 years, but this weekend it is going away!!!
So you are definately not alone…there have been many paint oops in our house over the years!
I really like the new color you picked out. Happy Painting!
YES! When I was pregnant with Big Cutie, Cute Husband painted her nursery the color I chose while I was out one afternoon. I walked in, took one look at it, and burst into tears. He didn’t miss a beat, told me to pick another color and redid the whole thing. He is clearly a saint. LOVE the mushroom color!
I love color and so I am never afraid to try anything, Except when I let my husband pick out the color for our large living room. It’s 15 x 26 (yes a bowling alley!) and my husband picked out a very loud orange. I tried to dissuade him as it was rather bright but he insisted the room needed something bright. Well, we painted and I hated it. It literally glowed!! When you pulled up to our house you could see the neon orange glow from the windows! He even had to admit it a few days later as we pulled into our driveway. We repainted it a nice subtle orange. Now I’m thinking of painting it a lighter version of your mushroom. The great thing with paint is that it is an easy if not time consuming change.
Oh we’ve had several rooms that are like that. Unfortunately, we’ve not repainted them yet. Partly because we are just too cheap 🙂 and partly because we still have more of the house to finish remodeling. I keep telling my husband that once the laundry & bathroom are done (the final 2 rooms) that I’ll be willing to repaint the 2 rooms we aren’t just madly in love with.
Love the new shade and hope it’s a keeper for you!
Color is HARD to get right! One thing you might remember is that you can take a fabric or even something from a magazine and they can match the color…that way if you find something you LOVE, they can replicate the color – easier than repainting or standing in front of that HUGE wall of paint swatches.
Before I learned this trick, I tried painting our room a terra cotta color…only it ended up looking like a big pair of grandma panties! Ugh…it was hideous!!! So yes, after a week of living with it, it got covered. Later that month, painted the kitchen a green color…came out looking too minty…had to repaint.
Picking paint is definitely an art, and you have to be able to live with it. Good news is, if you can’t…it’s just paint – you can redo.
Can’t wait to see your finished product!

I love the mushroom!
ohhhhh I’ve done this. I tried a sage green in my kitchen that looked FAB in our previous house, in the bathroom. but in this kitchen with different lighting? blechhhhh! Had to repaint it (in a light beige, lol).
We’ve repainted a few rooms multiple times. Thankfully my DH is patient with me, too. We painting our dining room in our last house red (!!) and had to redo it 3 times. Red is a hard color to get right. the 3rd time was perfect, thankfully! (the first was too DARK, 2nd was too orange-y).
I actually wanted to contact you about ordering the Basic H cleaning product. I found it in your store but I also wanted to order the bottles that you mix all your solution up in. They have the correct measurements on each bottle, right? I couldn’t find them in your store and I couldn’t get through on your “email me here” tab so I’m hoping you see this! My email is cphillips8608@gmail.com I’d love it if you could help me get this stuff ordered!
I absolutely LOVE this color!! Great choice!!
Thank you!!
Christina, I sent you an email. 🙂

Oh yeah…did that years ago when I picked out a gold for my master bedroom and a royal purple for my master bath and the guy who painted it said…”Yeah it reminds me of the old 70’s color…harvet gold”. We sold the house shortly after that…lol
I paint a wall & usually know whether I LOVE it or not.. although there have been many times I have finished the room thinking it may grow on me & if not, yes I repaint it right away. That’s the Lovely thing about paint. I do love the color!

Oh my gosh girl,
I used to be afraid also until we bought this current home and now all I do is paint… my husband says if I found black paint… I am sure I would find something to paint… and speaking of paint… i am repainting our mud room just because the colour I choose for it 6 months ago.. is blah to me …. ha ha ha… Thats the great thing about paint… its cheap… unless you have an addiction like me…
Oh yes, I actually paid someone to paint our kitchen and family room, the color was awful and I lived with it for two years because I didn’t want to admit to my husband that I didn’t like the color! 🙂 I really love your choice, have fun with your room!
Oh my goodness. I actually have the mushroom paint sample on the wall of the bathroom RIGHT NOW. Because, I’m here to tell you, in a fit of “I hate peach” I accidentally painted the bathroom… lavender. And lived with it for years.
I painted my master bedroom, first primer, then 2 coats of wallcolor, then one coat of glaze. I tried to like it, really, but I couldn’t sleep, I told my husband I had to change it because I could not sleep. So, I repainted 2 coats of wallcolor and then a new lighter glaze. Now I love it, in fact I did the same effect in the dinningroom only a little lighter. I have learned to only paint one wall in a new color to see if I am going to like it, and to save myself the hassel of repainting all of the walls again if I change my mind. Great blog and good luck.
