We all wish we could run a smooth household, but sometimes life catches up to us and things slip away. We then begin accumilating “pile-ups”… The laundry begins to pile-up, the bills start piling up, the dishes, the trash, the schedule, and the list goes on and on. Until finally we begin to crumble and fall & give up on what it was we started in the first place!
My weekly challenges are created for you to keep on top of things & to prevent those pile-ups from happening in the first place. Today I will be challenging all of you to create a Home Management Binder. I have been using one for about 2 years (and love it)… BUT created a new one just for this challenge. “New” seems so refreshing. I suggest that if you have a binder, re-create a new one with us!
Link up to the challenge today. Enjoy taking your time this week “creating” your binder. Personalize it & make it functional to YOU. Print out some printables & add them to it. Blog about your new binder, share lots of pictures, and visit others who have linked up with you! WE WILL BE ADDING THINGS TO THE BINDER AS THE CHALLENGE EVOLVES. “Calendar” is my first tab… I use this free printable for my “week at a glance” because I fell in love with the blue scalloped edges. I fill this out every Sunday evening.

Next in my binder goes the the “SCHEDULES” tab. This is where I place all of the kids schedules (dance, basketball, lunch menus, soccer, baseball, cheerleading, boy scouts, church, etc… and my schedules for work, bunko, book club, etc…) Its a never ending list. I hole punch everything and throw it out when it no longer applies.
The next tab is “CLEANING”. This is a fun one for me (cleaning is not necessarily fun, but the section in my binder is!). I printed out these cleaning printables and follow along with the cleaning schedule. Right now Becky has a “February Cleaning Schedule” coming up.
The next section is “MENU PLANNING”. I will cover this section in more detail in an upcoming challenge. Another great set of printables for this section is here.

The next tab is “FINANCES”. I LOVE this section. I use it D-A-I-L-Y. Its my “financial brain” and without it I’d be lost. I do all of my bill tracking & budgeting here. I’m a very STRICT budget gal & we are on the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace plan. (More printables that I use.) I will also go into detail with this section: Finances, Budgeting & how to live on less, in a later challenge! In this section I also keep bill acct. numbers & phone numbers on a list. So if I have to make a phone call to a creditor, I don’t have to look the numbers up every time.
The next tab is “TO DO”… Pretty self explanatory and I use these printables.
Next tab… “SCHOOL”. This section holds each childs abscence excuse forms, teacher welcome letters, phone numbers, school calendars, etc. Anything pertaining to “school” goes here. It’s been very convenient to have all of these papers in one place.
The “MEDICAL” tab is next. All medical & health insurance information goes here. Phone numbers, copies of insurance cards, immunization records (copies) & physical records (copies) are kept here. I use these printables for this section.
“CONTACTS” is next… The list of contacts you should have in your binder are:

Creating this binder is so on my to do list for today. I have just started going back to work more full time, and I am trying to keep up with everything that I used to do at the same time. this is a great challenge! i am going to do this, but for my mom and MIL who will be taking care of things while i have baby #2 in april. they will need all the information they can get, huh? i use my momagenda religiously and couldnt think of using anything else as im accustomed to it. so a “helping hand” binder will be created this week!! love the ideas!! π

I think, if I had to choose, I would first pick the budget and bill paying sheets. Those look like the sheets I have in my head that I think I’m going to create “someday” and never have. Next, I think I’d choose the meal planning. I use a simple meal planning sheet but it is pretty boring and ugly. It would be more fun to use something pretty.

I would make great use of the budget planning printables! I pay most bills with autopay and have been lulled by that false sense of security it brings – I forget to account for them, then run short. Yikes!

I think the financials and the scheduling would be most beneficial in our house. We’ve moved to a living on cash system for all of our variable expenses (check out http://gailvazoxlade.com/….definitely worth it!) so it would be nice to have somewhere to keep control of it. And just like everyone else we run from sun up to sun down and you always feel like you’re forgetting something! Love your blog and all the awesome tips…keep it up!!

I’m a follower and I’m very excited to make a home management binder. Since my two small kiddos steal all the brain power I have, I need all the organization I can get! I would love the bill pay and budget kit. It is an area my husband and I struggle and I think it would help us tremendously!

Retrohipmama, I just use a monthly calendar page and write in what I will post for the month ahead. I am trying to get on a schedule of posting the same thing on a weekly basis. We’ll see how it works? example. Simply Shaklee Saturdays, Challenge Sundays, etc…

Nice Management System I think the current waste management system needs to be evolved according to the new emerging challenges. With more and more electronic waste now in the households we definitely need a new strategy to handle such challenges.

I LOVE the To-Do list kit and the Christmas Planning Kit! I always end up with about 50 random lists on separate pieces of scratch paper floating in my purse … having it all together would be amazing!

I would love the meal planning kit. We are working on paying off debt, and I find that groceries are the most difficult for me in saving money, because I get in the mood for a particular dish, and have to go buy ingredients. I guess I need to get my pantry restocked π

I have spent the past month purging and organizing my entire home (including my 13 year old twins’ rooms, which was a challenge on it’s own). The Everything kit seems like the next practical step in my process. I have always considered myself an organized person however, my DH calls it “organization by piles” I tend to have piles of papers everywhere, but I do know where most things are. I’m trying to eliminate the piles and find a new and improved system. Thanks for all the great tips and suggestions; I have become a huge fan!

Toni’s set up is constantly changing as she tries new ways to organize. I personally use just the Budget Binder and keep the home binder all things home relate (owner manual’s, etc)

I have a home management binder (my oldest daughter and i started using these about a year ago) and i love it. My next project is to design a fundraising binder to organize and manage all my fundraising events and contacts for relay for life to help keep our team on track for the year

May I ask what labels you use for your home binder or manual binder? Black ink on white tape or black ink on clear tape? I tried looking on your pictures and it is hard to tell..Great job..I want to make a manual binder.
