Master bedroom retreat – sneak peek

February 22, 2011
This month I have been busy planning my master bedroom retreat makeover.  My “old” master bedroom had flat builders paint in beige (that word makes me cringe).  I have been planning this makeover in my mind for the last year, but have really gotten motivated within the last 6 weeks. I had a hard time choosing a color… but decided on Enamelware by Martha Stewart (at Home Depot).  Its a refreshing, calm color.
My dreaded flat builders paint and a Shabby Chic curtain (normally a roman shade, but unrolled at the moment). I don’t really decorate shabby chic anymore, so out to the garage sale the curtains & bedding will go.

Im not finished with my bedroom, so this is not a “reveal” post… but a little sneak peek.  I found these great silky panels at Target.  LOVE them! They look very similar to something Restoration Hardware would carry.

Below are my panels from Target ($29.95 each panel. 4 panels needed)…
My lighting here is horrible. They look so much better in person.

Restoration Hardware ($129.00 each panel)…

Drapery clips were around $6 each at Target.

I found this little tip somewhere while blog surfing (cant remember the site).  To make your draperies “look” pinch pleated & more custom, use drapery clips & gather the fabric and clip it together.  You can see in the following pictures, how I did it.

Gather the fabric and pinch it into the clip.

Here are the panels one more time… The curtain rod is from World Market  ($19.95 each).

Here are my little rascals painting with {sponge} brushes.  I didn’t tell them these type of brushes were not for painting walls. 😉  BUT at least they didn’t drip paint. We painted over their mural when they were finished. They had a blast.

Stay tuned to see my Master Bedroom reveal!!!

Oh, your room is looking snazzy already! I have a similar color to our master bedroom…blues and browns! I’m excited to see what you do!

  2. Your drapes look so fancy! Amazing how much money people spend on that kind of stuff, right?

Can’t wait to see your finished room!

I’ve seen those panels at Target and I think they’re super pretty and classy! I recently purchased a new duvet cover plus shams that I’d been dreaming of and am excited to make my bedroom into the cozy space I need! Not sure if it’s just me, but the bedroom always seems to be the last place I get to decorating…
Anyway, excited to see the reveal post when yours is done. I might link up my room later this week.

I love what a difference just adding the clips makes to the curtains, I might try this in my living room!

LOL. Wow! You’re brave letting the kids paint! Love it! Love the curtains too. I can’t wait until we do our addition and remodel so that I can start re-decorating. We don’t want to waste money right now when we’ll just be doing it over. Have a great Tuesday!

I am right there with you Happy Wife, my bedroom is always the last on the list. I painted a headboard on the wall thinking we would get one soon. Nope, still there 6 years later!

I can’t wait to see the finished room. It might be just what I need to get moving on mine.

  8. wow, I love those curtains! I need some new curtains, I’ll have to check out Target; I never thought to look there.

  9. I love that paint color!! I cannot wait to move out of military housing and get settled somewhere so I can do what I want with a house….
