Organizing under the Kitchen Sink…

December 8, 2010
I wish I would have taken a before picture… but I was on a role and totally forgot to.

The main purpose for me to clean & organize this space was to purge all of the un-necessary cleaners, candles, junk, empty bottles, and lots of other surprises that I found.
It was a screaming MESS!

When we would open the doors, things came falling out (kind of like my linen closet).

After switching to the Get Clean brand, I no longer need or want the old (toxic) cleaners I used to use. That gave room for SPACE!  No more bleach, ammonia, or chemical filled bottles under here anymore!
I LOVE the wire door organizers from Walmart. They were only $6.oo for a set of three different sizes.  Now its much easier to grab a cleaner, where as before I had to dig to find one. Its a simple fix for a never-ending problem.
This is on my list of things to buy. Isnt it great?  You hang it on the cabinet door! (Also found at Walmart).

I put an organizer on the other door too!

On the right side in the cabinet, I keep a metal organizer for my candles and two plastic bins. The first bin holds scrubbing brushes & microfiber cloths. The second bin holds hand soap pumps.

The left side under my sink is where my dish rack lives.

This is my favorite part… I got this cute green contact paper at TargetIt was $6.00 and made a world of difference.  It totally transformed the space.  Love it! I also placed the contact paper in all of my kitchen drawers. I still need to buy more for my bathrooms (on my list of things to do).

There is always a candle burning when I clean. Today it’s Warm Apple Pie. YuM!
I’m so glad you stopped by to visit my blog.  Your comments or tips are always welcome & loved.

  13. I think it’s funny that one of the sure signs you’ve reached adulthood is when a well-organized cupboard makes your heart pound like Tiger Beat did when you were a ‘tween. Not that I know anything about that though. Your sink area is beautiful and I’m enthralled with those door caddies for only $6?! I’m buying some tomorrow! Lovely pictures as well. I’m visiting from your link at Iheartnaptime.

I know this was posted a while ago but I was JUST wondering/thinking about what people do with their dish rack. I hate having mine on the counter but I need it there to put the drying pots n’ pans. Why is yours under the sink? Do you leave it there or is it just for storage when you’re not using it?

  15. Toni says:

Samantha, I store my rack under the sink when its not in use. I use the dishwasher most of the time. 🙂

I love your blog! I just wanted to tell you that I have the exact contact paper and I love it too – BUT – I got mine at Dollar Tree!!! I have used it to cover a shelf and around empty cans to hold extra kitchen utensils or pens.

  17. Toni says:

Lisa, Im goin to dollar tree tomorrow! lol. Lucky you!

I have to say that I’ve been using your shaklee products for about a week and I’m totally sold. I organized under my sink and totally re arranged all my cabinets…I even totally copied off of you and used the same adorable contact paper. The basic H has replaced my stainless steel cleaner as well as all my cleaners and using it on my windows and my all glass front door…I can’t get OVER how gorgeous it looks! My kitchen absolutely sparkles! LOVE IT!

  19. Hey Toni.. great job as usual. Love the pics.

So I am sitting here on my iPad and just got inspired to go clean and purge thanks to this post! Awesome. I was feeling a little worn out today, but just got a burst of energy. Love that you burn a candle while you clean.

I’ve been posting about a little cleaning and decluttering lately too. Feels so good.

I discovered your blog through clicking a number of links the last of which was ‘under the kitchen sink’ which I really needed help with! Just wanted to say thank you for the great ideas before I run out to the Walmart for those wire baskets and contact paper!

  24. Kitchen sinks are used in a huge number of cooking and cleaning tasks and probably get the most use out of any item in the whole room. Therefore, those looking for a new one should not rush into the decision and should take some time to carefully consider the different types of styles and materials available.

We are Cool Earth Contracting & Coating. This seems to be a great site which offers Reflective Paint Austin, Commercial roof, Commercial roofing, Cool roof etc. and i would surely like to try their service…i had been relying on Foil Radiant Barrier earlier and they too offered good stuff. You will be glad you decided to work with them.

  26. Terri says:

Great ideas, especially for someone like me who has RA and have difficulty reaching for items. And love the over the cabinet organizers, good for apartment dwellers, not make holes in the doors, plus able to take it with when one moves. I use plastic containers under my bathroom sink also for easy access.

  27. I am SOO glad I found your blog, I just love it. I have a feeling Im gunna be up late reading post after post 🙂

Hope you check out my blog and follow back if you like what you read 🙂

  28. Even though there is no before picture, I sure can tell that it was way different from what it is now because I also experience the same problem. I do know it is my fault because I just dump things on my cabinet that when need something, I do not know where to find it. Your blog just inspired me to do the same and start cleaning up the mess. For more serious problems, one could still ask the help of Twin Cities janitorial just in case. Likewise, thank you for all the tips on the metal organizers, plastic bins, candles, etc.

  29. AshMcWomack says:

I love this!! I recently did mine too! I saw on Pinterest where they took a tension rod and placed it underneath and used it to hang cleaning supplies on it as well as clean rags!! Love you blog BTW!! :)-Ashleigh

is contact paper hard to put on? Have u ever heard of putting the contact paper in the freezer first, so it roll’s on better and w/ less air bubbles? I read this in a Martha S. book. I’m not sure if it is really true, and was wondering if anyone has tried it.
