Today I am going to be sharing an amazing product with you called Basic H! But before I get started, I want to show you the reason for this post… Carrington, my minature schnauzer. She gets all of the lovely credit to why my kitchen floors are so dirty!

My floors are consistantly filthy… its a never ending battle with a cat and a dog in the house. I have accepted the fact that they will never stay clean. I have to mop A LOT & I used to despise “mop” time. It was a dreadful chore for me. I didn’t like touching the swiffer wipes. I knew they were toxic. I finally found a new mop that I can add my own (non-toxic) cleaner to. Now, I don’t mind mopping at all. Its so easy now.
Here is what my floors usually look like.
Once I found this inexpensive mopping system, I was just elated. I found it at walmart for $19.95. Its called the Cedar Promist.
(I am not endorsing this mop, I just love it).
All I do is mix 1/4 tsp of Basic H to the bottle of water and the cleaner is made! Basic H is so economical that just one 16 oz. bottle makes 48 GALLONS of cleaner! Its also non toxic. So, no more TOXIC & chemical filled swiffer for my floors. Now, that I am happy about!
Here is a shocking comparison…
1 bottle of Basic H equals the cleaning uses of 5,824 bottles of 26 oz. Windex
To Use Basic H:
For all-purpose cleaning:
Add 1/4 tsp. to 16 oz. of water.
For windows and mirrors:
Add 1-2 drops to 16 oz. of water.
For degreasing:
Add 1 1/2 tsp. to 16 oz. of water. For bigger jobs, add 2 oz. to 1 gallon of water.
Many uses for Basic H:
Window Cleaner – Mix – Only 1 to 3 drops in 16 oz. spray bottle of water. If smearing occurs, mixture too strong – add water to dilute.
General Spray Cleaner – Mix 4-6 drops in 16 oz spray bottle of water. Use all over the house to wipe furniture, chrome, the stove, the refrigerator, vent blinds, and excellent for louvered doors.
General Spot Remover – Apply Basic-H directly on spotted area. Use a toothbrush or finger to rub into area. Wipe off with a damp cloth or rinse in basin of water. (Removes coffee, ink, grass, etc)
General Cleaning – 1/2 tsp. in qt. of warm water. Cleans doors, walls, woodwork, appliances, bathroom fixtures & tile.
Insect Repellent for People and Animals – Rub/Apply full strength Basic-H wherever you do not want insects to bite; they won’t bite where Basic-H has been applied. Also relieves itching of insect bites (rub on, full strength). Be careful around eyes, it does sting. If you get some in the eyes just flush with water.
Floors – 1 Tbs. per gallon of water. Leaves floor shining. May require rinsing.
Dusting – 1/8 tsp. in pint of water, squeeze sponge almost dry (Or spray on), Wipe off dust, fingerprints, etc. Dry with clean cloth. Leaving the wax finish beautifully bright & dust repellent, less dusting required.
Outside Windows – 1/2 tsp. in “Ortho-type” spray applicator full of water. Makes 2 gallons of solution for windows & screens. Squeegee dry.
Coffee-makers – Dilute 1/8 tsp. Basic-H in pot of water. Run through cycle & coffee stains will rinse away.
Ironing – 1 drop in steam iron keeps the jets & interior clean.
Wallpaper – Excellent for removing wallpaper. 1/2 Tbs. per gal. of water. Soak wallpaper with sponge & peel or scrape.
Concrete & Mortar Mix – 1/4 oz. per 1 gallon of water. Makes cement & mortar spread easier & smoother, set harder.
Plumbing – Will keep pipes clean & free-running when used regularly to wash hands, pots & pans at sinks. It emulsifies grease & can eliminate cleaning of grease traps.
Pressure Washer – 1/2 oz Basic-H to 20 gallons of water.
Heavy Duty – use 1 oz per gallon of water. Leaves a luster to mobile homes, homes, RVs & etc.
Humidifiers – Use 1 or 2 drops in humidifier water to help prevent rust & scum.
Knives – 1 or 2 drops on cutting stone for sharpening knives. Keep moist & add Basic-H as needed. Doesn’t clog stone – very important when sharpening tools. Stone rinses free of residue.
Yard Spray to Rid of Fleas – in hose spray bottle, fill with water; add 1 cap-full of Basic-H. Attach to hose & spray yard every 10 days for 3 applications. Use twice a year thereafter to control. Rinse all plants thoroughly.
Liquid Hand Soap – Mix 1/4 Basic-H to 3/4 water in pump dispenser by sinks. Will not dry or irritate hands like soaps may. Will help moisten, soften & protect hands!
Fine Fabrics – Use 1/2 tsp to a basin of lukewarm water to wash woolens, nylon stockings, and all fine fabrics.
Gum – Use full strength to remove gum from skin, hair or carpeting.
Fruits & Vegetables – Use 1/8 tsp. in pint of water wash and rinse. Removes insecticide residue, dirt and waxes. For lettuce cut head in half and place in cold water with a couple drops of H. It removes the poisons and crisps up the lettuce.
Automotive Uses Washing- vehicle – 1/2 tsp. per gallon of water. Wash small area at a time and hose off. Wipe windshield, windows and chrome with paper towels after rinsing. You’ll love the shine!
Battery Terminals – 1/2 tsp. to pint of water and spray on battery terminals and let soak 2 minutes. Clean with wire brush.
Filters – 1 tsp to gallon of water. Soak air filters from motors and watch the dirt float out into the water. Air dry or put on hot engine for faster drying.
Camping Cleaning & Washing – Coat bottoms and sides of pots and pans with Basic-H before placing over campfire. Black soot just slides right off when you wash.
Fish Odors – 1/2 Tbs. per quart of water. Basic-H2 works wonders on boats, docks.
Washing RV, Boat & Camper – 1/2 Tbs. per gallon of water.
Crayon – To remove from walls, use full strength.
Spot Remover – Apply directly on spotted area, which has been dampened with water. Use a toothbrush or finger to rub basic-H2 into area. Wipe with a damp cloth or rinse in basin of water
Upholstery – Mix 1/2 Tbs. to ½ gallon water. Spray on & rub clean.
Septic Tanks – Keeps crust from forming. For maximum health of septic system use all of Shaklee’s phosphate free cleaning products. This will do much to promote the growth of needed friendly bacteria.
Houseplants – Water plants with 1 oz. Basic-H to 1 gallon water. 4 drops to 1 pint water can be sprayed on the leaves to make healthier plants and keep dust off.
Fertilizer – Add a few drops to warm water, then water your indoor or outdoor plants. The Basic H2 solution will make the ground soluble to the water, thus making your plants much healthier than with regular water.
Toothpaste – Add a drop or two to your toothbrush, right on top of your normal dab of toothpaste. Watch as your teeth become whiter and your gums healthier. Your breath may even stay fresh longer, as Basic H fights germs of all sorts.
Glove – Before you start a dirty job or before gardening, pour a few drops directly onto your hands. Rub them together to coat both hands. After you are done cleaning, wash your hands to find that dirt, scum, smell and overall ickiness are nowhere to be found.
Pesticide – Dilute your Basic H2 to a couple of drops per spray-bottle, then spritz your plants as part of your regular routine. Not only will the bugs stay away but you might also find that they are bigger and healthier, as well.
Produce wash – Just 1/8tsp. added to a pint of water will make an effective and safe wash for your produce. Grit and dirt on leafy vegetables are easily removed, and you no longer have to worry about a funny taste remaining on the produce.
Diaper wash – Coupled with 1/2 tsp of Shaklee Basic G (a germicide), 1/4 tsp of Basic H2 can remove germs and odors from your cloth diapers. Leave a bit in your diaper pail to prevent odors there, as well.
Windshield Wash/Rain repellent – Pour 3 1/2 tsp of Basic H2 into one quart of water, and use it as your windshield wash. Rain and slush will easily wipe away from your windshield, and bugs will slide away, as well.
Here are my floors after I cleaned them with Basic H.
All nice and shiny.
Even though they are still laminant floors, I am happy for now, that they actually look clean. I can’t wait to get my new hand scrapped hardwood, wide plank, dark flooring. Until then, this is what I have.
Here is a cost comparison to the traditional cleaners you might find at walmart or target. Pretty shocking how much $ America spends in cleaners! Every since we started on the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace plan, I have been searching for ways to save money. Once I found Shaklee, I knew God was watching out for us. We have saved so much. 🙂

I am excited to see so many uses for Basic H. I got my first bottle a couple weeks ago, as well as the Shaklee spray bottles, and so far so good. I plan on trying it for a fruit and veggie wash, in the humidifier (it sounds like you use it while it’s running?), and as a liquid soap (I wonder if it’ll work in a foaming soap dispenser.)
I have a tip for measuring Basic H. Spray bottle necks are generally narrow so instead of using a measuring spoon to measure it and then a funnel to add it to the spray bottle I used the kids’ medicine dispensing spoons. I was able to pour into the medicine dispenser without spilling and losing any Basic H. They are also easier to pour straight into the spray bottle than my regular measuring spoons, no funnel needed.
Your floor looks great! I just got my order yesterday. Is Basic H safe for wood floors?

I was wonder if you can you add Basic G to your Basic H2 mixture for cleaning and disinfecting?
Also, this may seem like a silly question for those of you have have been using Shaklee for a while but I’m new to it. Is Basic H the same as Basic H2?
I called Shaklee to ask that question and they do not recommend it. They said if you do, they do not guarantee the efficacy of the cleaners. So, If you need to sanitize something you can use Basic G & for basic cleaning use Basic H.
Basic H is the same as Basic H2.
Basic H is great for wood floors!

Goodness gracious your laminates are gorgeous!! Mine aren’t that nice, but they are never ever ever clean and shiny like that. I’m waiting for some beautiful hardwoods one day too 😉
I got my basic H a couple weeks ago. In all seriousness I have cleaned everything with it from my kitchen, stainless steel, windows, floors and my sofa! My lab has allergies and I hated the thought of cleaning floors and then having him walk on it, and then lick his paws! And it has worked wonderfully on my tile floor and laminate floors. I LOVE this product!
Okay, I think I need to get myself some Basic H! Love the idea of being able to use it in a Humidifier.

I have seen those products on another blog as well as yours and they are looking good to me! Maybe next payday I will place an order. And look for that walmart thing. I love my swiffer wet mop, but that looks similar and I would rather use some non-toxic stuff as wll.

Margaret, basic g has a “clean” scent, you could say, because it has deoderizing properties in it. Basic h does not… It is as non toxic as you can get for a cleaner. The CEO of shaklee’ s wife, said on oprah… “Clean” should not have a scent. If you think about it, she’s right. If you are “interested” in shaklee, you are probably searching to replace the chemical filled products in your home. I hope this helps. I love to “smell” stuff too… So it was different switching to non toxic products that were not filled with chemical laddened so called “scents”. I’m used to it now. I love basic h.

Toni, I just wanted to let you know I was so excited to see that OCedar Pro Mist. My Swiffer Wet Jet was empty and the batteries were dead and I was so sick of having to refill both, so I went to Wally World and got a Pro Mist and I love it! I’m using up my old chemical stuff but I will be ordering a bottle of the H2 tonight or tomorrow. I’ll be able to clean my floors easily for next to nothing and for a very long time to come. I love that idea! (I already bought the scour off and my sink is shining! Going to use it on my oven soon).

Thanks for posting about the OCedar mop. I purchased it about a month ago for my daughter to use when she does her weekly mopping. I, of course, use the Basic H as the cleaner.
Do you do anything special so that you don’t get streaks? I bought the Basic H and I was so excited to use it on my laminate floors because I can’t find any cleaning solution that doesn’t streak, but I used the Basic H and it also streaks 🙁 Please give me any tips you may have! I also bought the OCedar mop you have.

Hi, I s aw your post an bought myself the same mop and basic h. I made the solution from the instruction but my floor isn’t shiny or smooth like yours. And it feels sticky. I’m so sad. I hope that I did something wrong and not the basic h cause in planning to use basic h for many things. Please help
Im not sure what you did wrong? Basic H isnt even sticky in the first place? I would clean out the bottle really well and make sure to follow the directions. Try it again. Thast never happened to me..If you are not happy wit it, you can call 1800shaklee for your money back. Sorry. I have never heard of this happening before.
Also, you might make sure you use the proper amount of Basic H. Our tendency is to use more because we think that will help it work even better! Using too much Basic H may have caused the stickiness. Seriously, a little goes a long way. I also use their Get Clean Hand Dish Wash for hand washing my dishes. I love how on the back of the bottle it says “You need only a few drops to tackle a pile of greasy dinner aftermath. Really. Just a few. This is an exercise in restraint.” 🙂
Good post!! I have been taking a bubble bath in Basic H for over thirty years and no ticks or mosquito bites in that time frame, it’s amazing!! My daughter has been bubble bathing in it since he was born, has never had either of the above bites and we r in the garden a lot, recommended to all
I love Basic H so much! I have been using it for the past few months and could not be happier! I highly recommend it to everyone that wants to clean in a healthier way! I use it for my cleaning business and have been greatly pleased with the results.
Oh! The Cedar products are awesome too! I am going to get this mop. I use microfiber Libman mops with the washable heads. They come in handy, but this system is better for laminate floors. Looks like it will allow for less excess water build up. I use the O Cedar polishing/cleaning pad after I clean my wood floors and laminate. They really give it an extra shine. Glad I am not the only one who has found a good combination when it comes to great products.
Obviously the streaks are because they used too much basic H. It’s very very concentrated!!
I use Shaklee for a few years now but never tired it on my floors. I have real wood floors and have been told to use nothing but water and maybe a little soap. I use a Norwex mop and like how it works but I definitely have times where I need more than that and wondered if the Basic H really is ok for real wood. Also you use the dishwasher powder from Shaklee, if I have read correctly and wondered if you have problems with them not coming out really shiny. I have gone back to using what I don’t want to use because of how the dishes come out. I don’t use much of the powder due to what our appliance guys have told us about using to much soap caused the cloudiness of your glasses and so on. I have tried adding a few drops of lemon oil and that doesn’t seem to help. One more thing, does the O-Cedar mop have a Velcro microfiber pad? I am wondering if I could put my Norwex floor cloth thing onto that. It would be great to not always have to go back to the sink to rinse out the cloth to do all of my floors. I used to add a capful of original Basic H to the bathtub when my kids were babies. If they had any diaper rash at all it would be gone right away after the Basic H bath. It also worked great for my husband by rubbing some on his face before shaving as he had a tough beard and it would be much easier and a cleaner, smoother shave.
Jan, we know the wonderful uses of Basic H, but be aware that the ‘old’ BH is not the same as Basic H2, since this new one is more concentrated therefore, not recommended by Shaklee to put it on skin for prolonged periods of time, in fact upon coming in contact with the skin, should be rinsed. I’m personally disappointed that the ‘old’ one isn’t sold in small bottles anymore, as I used to love to put it on me as mosquito repellent.
